Just for Teachers

Teachers have always had a special place in our hearts as many people in our family and many close family friends are or were in the teaching profession.  We know the importance and powerful impact that teachers can have on the lives of their students and recognize the importance of a message such as Pay It Forward being taught and reinforced in our schools.  We have had a number of lesson suggestions and Pay It Forward ideas that could be used in schools and classrooms that teachers have shared with us . . . and we feel it is necessary to share them with you all.

Pay it Forward Lesson – Grade 1 – Lesson submitted by Robin Heshka

Columbia School pumpkin patchRobin has since updated this lesson to include Pumpkins at Hallowe’en time.   As the students do Pay-it-forwards they write them on a “pumpkin” (that she handed out to everyone in the school). Then they return them and Robin “plants” them in the pumpkin patch!! The birds in the sky are the staff pay-it-forwards…Robin had just started it when this picture was taken.
This is a cute way to display all the good things happening in the school!

Gladys McDonald School in Regina, SK focuses in on a different virtue every month of the school year. Their focus this January 2013 was on Kindness.  It is one such virtue that was well received in lessons and demonstrations by staff, students, and families. This is a wonderful K-8 school that takes the business of learning and student success very seriously.  They are a self-proclaimed “No Excuses!” school striving for student excellence, and they do as much as they can to make a difference in the lives of every student they come into contact with daily.  They have also kindly agreed to share the following two documents helping students, teachers, and families understand what kindness looks like, sounds like, and feels like.  Please check out their website at: http://gladysmcdonald.rbe.sk.ca/
