Regardless of who you are, what you have, where you live or who is around you . . . Be thankful for who you are, what you have, where you live, and those who are around you! Give thanks and God bless!
This weekend is Thanksgiving and we have so very much to be thankful for. We are among the blessed who enjoy delicious and wholesome meals 365 days a year. We have a clean, warm and comfortable place to call “home.” We have a beautiful and loving family and even though life has brought with it hardships we are truly blessed.
We know that it should happen every day, but Thanksgiving is the official day when we collectively give thanks for our many blessings. Sharing our feast with family and friends is a beautiful and treasured tradition celebrated by many. Turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes, creamy gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie…and so many more mouth-watering dishes will be on our Thanksgiving tables. We’ll laugh and joke, share old memories and make new ones. We are all blessed.
And, while we can’t feed the world, we can all do a little to help those less fortunate; someone who has been laid off or is struggling to feed their families on low incomes; single moms (and dads) who are trying to pay the high costs of daycare so they can bring in enough money to keep their families alive; the elderly living on small, fixed incomes; the physically and mentally challenged; the lost and the forgotten.
This year, when we begin planning our holiday feasts and celebrations, let’s all buy an extra can of cranberry sauce, a box of stuffing and maybe some decadent cookies and a case of pop! For about $10, we can each make a difference in the world. We could also call our local food banks and see what they are in need of and make a donation of some kind.
When we sit down to our own Thanksgiving feasts, we will know that we have helped to fill a tiny tummy or put a smile on a struggling mom or dad’s face. We are blessed…and we must pay it forward.
Happy Early Thanksgiving and God bless!
